Post-op days 1-5

Days 1-3 were absolutely excruciating, and there was a lot of crying that was done. I couldn't get comfortable, I couldn't sleep, I dreaded getting up to hobble to the bathroom, and all I wanted to do was take a shower and stop hurting!

This was taken the first night at home! Gotta love the HUGE, clunky knee brace that you get to drag around...

Day 4 (yesterday) wasn't nearly as bad as the first few days, as I was FINALLY able to take a shower with the assistance of my mom and sister. After my shower yesterday morning, I was feeling quite a bit better and I definitely wasn't as cranky. My TENS unit was delivered yesterday, and that has helped my pain tremendously! I slept most of the night last night, only getting up to take my pain medication every four hours.

Well, today is post-op day 5! I definitely still have a long way to go, but my pain has diminished drastically in just the past few hours. I still have my leg elevated, as it keeps the swelling and pressure off of it so that it is not as uncomfortable. I was told to keep my ACE bandage on for a few more days until I have my follow up appointment with my surgeon, but I have a crazy rash going on underneath and it is about to drive me insane! I called the office and they said that I could loosen it and see if that helps, but it hasn't made any difference. I just want to scratch! Any suggestions?

This morning as I was laying here watching tv, I thought I would look up different experiences of people that have had the same MPFL reconstructive surgery that I just had, and I have come across a lot of different blogs. It seems as though that is how a lot of people in our situation communicate and share thoughts and ideas, and that is what prompted me to start my own blog! Not only can it help other people by sharing my experience, but I am always willing to answer questions or help in any other way possible! I'd really like to get in touch with some of you that have had the same surgery, so feel free to contact me! :)
